Roadrunners Win in Reno

August 26, 2008 - Golden Baseball League (GBL)
Reno Silver Sox News Release

The Reno Silver Sox opened their final home stand of the season Monday against the St George Roadrunners at Peccole Park losing 12-5.

The Roadrunners got on the scoreboard first getting to Reno starter Derrick Landavazo early with a first inning RBI single by Angel Sanchez. That was all the Roadrunners would get however, leading 1-0 after one inning.

St George added to its total in the top of the third inning when RF Seth Loman hit a two run home run to make the score 3-0. That was only the tip of the iceberg that inning for the St George offense. The Roadrunners would load the bases, and with the bags full 1B Ivan Reyes hit a grand slam over the left field wall to give St George a 7-0 advantage.

Justin Abbott started the game for the Roadrunners, and was sensational. The right hander tossed seven innings, allowing five runs. He struck out eleven on his way to a win.

The Silver Sox could not get any runs on the board against Abbott until the bottom of the fifth inning when RF Ben Wharton got on base to start the inning and DH Gilbert Guilin doubled him in. Shortly after CF Gary Harris quickly knocked in Guilin. Minutes later 1B Steve Alexander singled in Harris to make the score 7-3 Roadrunners.

Next inning Bart Braun came in to relieve Silver Sox starter Derrick Landavazo who pitched five innings allowing seven runs on six hits. The Roadrunners got to Braun quickly when SS Eddy Garabito hit a two run home run to extend the St George lead to 9-3.

Reno added another run to its sum in the sixth inning when Harris drove in his second run of the game. Then in the seventh, Alexander hit a booming solo home run with a bat flip that would have made Carlos Delgado jealous.

The Silver Sox return to Peccole Park on Tuesday for game two of the year's final homestand. Tuesday is two for Tuesday, and Thursday is Fan appreciation night where the first 500 fans receive a free logo ball courtesy of Bill Pearce Motors.
