St. George RoadRunners News Release

RENO - Baseball is a beautiful game when the trio of pitching, defense and offense combine in perfect harmony. Monday night at Peccole Park, the RoadRunners' tune sounded pretty sweet in a convincing 12-5 win over the Reno Silver Sox.

Justin Abbott made franchise history by striking out 11 Reno batters in seven innings, besting the former record of nine by two different pitchers. Abbott scattered five runs to pick up his fifth victory of the season (5-4).

The RoadRunner offense came to life with two outs in four different innings. Angel Sanchez plated the first run with an RBI single in the first, scoring Greg Lemon.

The third inning proved to be the most lethal for Reno starter Derrick Landavazo (3-3). Lemon singled with one out, but after an Eddy Garabito fly out, Seth Loman launched a homer over the right field wall, his team-leading 19th, to move the lead to three. Sanchez walked, Cody Nowlin singled and Liu Rodriguez reached first with a base on balls to load the bases. Ivan Reyes slugged a full count fastball to left for a grand slam, his first GBL homer. After six runs scored, St. George led 7-0.

Garabito went yard with a two-run shot in the sixth while Reyes hit another homer, a solo blast, in the seventh. Three Reno errors after Reyes' shot resulted in the final two runs for STG.

Anthony Pluta relieved Abbott in the eighth and allowed just two hits over the final two innings.

St. George had 11 hits on the night with Lemon, Loman and Reyes each having two. The Sox had 12 safeties led by former RoadRunner Gary Harris with four. Steve Alexander and Gilbert Guilin added two a piece.

The RoadRunners improved to 21-17 in the second half and gained a half game on both first-place Long Beach and second-place Orange County. Reno dropped to 11-26 in the North Division's second half.

Game two of the series is Tuesday night, first pitch at 7:05pm Pacific. St. George hands the ball to Monte Mansfield (6-2, 7.70) while Reno has yet to name a starter.
