Reno Silver Sox News Release
In the year's final home game, The Reno Silver Sox and the St George Roadrunners met in a Peccole Park shootout. In a game that featured nine home runs, St George prevailed 12-8.
Reno struck first when 1B Steve Alexander hit a big home run on to Evans Ave over the left field wall to give the Silver Sox a 1-0 lead.
They would not hold the lead long however, as SS Eddy Garabito doubled in a pair of runs the very next inning to give St George the lead. Two batters later, 3B Angel Sanchez hit a two run blast making the score 5-1.
The Sox would respond quickly however, following a Gary Harris double, 2B Carlos Madrid would hit a towering two run home run to get the Sox within two.
Both teams scored one run in the fourth inning, and in the fifth the Roadrunners scored two runs when Sanchez and DH Cody Nowlin hit back to back solo home runs. In the bottom of the fifth, the Sox answered with two runs on a Matt Kavanaugh single which knocked in two.
2B Juan Serrano homered to start the sixth, and again in the eighth. In between those two shots Alexander hit yet another home run making the score 9-7 Roadrunners. Steve, who began the year struggling with strikeouts, finished strong with a team leading twenty home runs and the respect of the Peccole Park faithful.
Reno newcomer LF Brian Mason hit his first home run as a member of the team in the eighth inning getting the lead down to one.
The Roadrunners extended their lead to four in the 9th, and Jason Norderum came in to finish off the Silver Sox.
Reno concludes its 2008 season with a series against the Scorpions in Yuma.
