Reno Loses Pitchers Duel

August 27, 2008 - Golden Baseball League (GBL)
Reno Silver Sox News Release

Peccole Park is typically known as a hitters ballpark. Not Tuesday. The St George Roadrunners out dueled the Reno Silver Sox in a pitchers battle that took just over two hours to play. Reno dropped its second straight game at home by a final of 4-1.

Reno starter Andrew Alvarado and St George starting pitcher Monte Mansfield both tossed excellent games. Alvarado went seven innings allowing only one run on five hits. Mansfield pitched 8.1 innings allowing only one run.

These two pitchers were both so solid in this game, there were no runs scored until the seventh inning.

The Roadrunners struck first in the top of seventh when 3B Angel Sanchez knocked in LF Greg Lemon on a sacrifice fly.

St George added to its lead in the top of the ninth when 3B Angel Sanchez hit a three run home run to give his team a 4-1 lead.

The Silver Sox got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the ninth when CF Gary Harris hit a solo home run to make the score 4-1. Reno would get two more runners on base, but a game ending double play ball would spell doom for a possible late rally.

The Sox are back in action wednesday night against St George with the first pitch at 7 PM and gates opening at six. Wednesday is also family night at Peccole Park, where the entire family gets in for only $14. You can always buy tickets online at silversoxbaseball.com or visit the ticket booth prior to the game.
