August 28, 2008 - Golden Baseball League (GBL)
Reno Silver Sox News Release

In game three of a four game series against the St George Roadrunners, the Reno Silver Sox started off red hot, but could not hold the hard hitting Roadrunners at bay. Reno lost its penultimate game of 2008 by a score of 12-6.

The Silver Sox started off strong in the first inning when SS Andre Alvarado knocked in CF Gary Harris to give Reno the early 1-0 lead. 1B Steve Alexander hit a mammoth two run home run that was last spotted somewhere in the vicinity of John Ascuaga's Nugget. The blast was Alexander?s 17th home run of the year. After one inning, the Silver Sox had a 3-0 lead.

Reno fans have begun to learn the danger of facing Roadrunner first baseman Ivan Reyes. He showed how much power he possessed on Wednesday when he faced Silver Sox starting pitcher Mario Guilin. Reyes hit a two run home run in the second inning and did likewise in the third. The Roadrunners would go on to tally five runs in inning number three and 7-5. Guilin pitched four innings allowing eight runs on eight hits.

Reyes was not the only player to hit two home runs in Wednesday?s game, when 2B Liu Rodriguez left with injury, Juan Serrano entered the game and also homered twice in the St George win.

Gregorio Martinez started the game for St George and pitched very well. The right hander pitched eight innings allowing six runs on seven hits to improve his record to 3-0.

Grant Ledbetter pitched three innings of scoreless relief for the Silver Sox taking over for Guilin in the fifth inning. Kevin Frederick and Scott Schneider also saw action on the mound.

CF Gary Harris homered again for Reno, doing so for the second straight night. The home run was the 12th of the year for Harris, who also stole his 37th base of the season in the loss.

The Silver Sox will try to salvage a win in the series and prevail on fan appreciation night Thursday in the final home game of the year. The first 500 fans will receive a free logo ball courtesy of Bill Pierce Motors. You can always buy tickets online at silvesoxbaseball.com or visit the ticket booth prior to the game.
