Edmonton, AB- The Edmonton Cracker-Cats followed up last night's come from behind win in their final road game of the regular season tonight in Calgary, winning 8-3 . Calgary hitters struck out 13 times in this game, and could not match the 'Cats 8 run fourth inning.
'Cats ace starter, Erik Van Slyke showed great control for much of the innings he pitched 6.0IP with 8H, 3R, 2ER, 3BB and 9 strikeouts.
Evan Greusel got the start for Calgary. The right-hander went 3.1IP, 7H, 7 ER, 7R, 1BB and 2SO.
The Vipers got off to an early lead, but once again Edmonton managed to come storming back, scoring a total of 8 runs off of 7 hits in the top of the fourth. Jose Morban got things started with a RBI double to tie the game at two. Chris Van Rossum singled to bring Morban home. Jose Valdez then cranked a two run home run, his fourth of the season. Catcher, Jordan Lundberg kept the runs coming for Edmonton, sending a double into the outfield; and later scoring off of two wild pitches. Carlos Arroyo in his second plate appearance of the inning, singled giving the Cats a six run lead.
Robert Coello came into the game in the seventh, the former Viper went IP Joel Schmal, in his twentieth appearance of the season, relieved Coello, striking out one batter and walking another. Right-hander Dan Touchet only needed two pitches to end the eighth inning, and managed to retire all three batters he faced in the ninth.
In typical battle of Alberta fashion, Vipers manager Mike Busch, catcher Patrick Arlis and 'Cats first basemen Joe Jiannetti were ejected.
