'Cats claw back in extra innings, winning 8-7

Edmonton, AB- The Edmonton Cracker-Cats began a two game series in Calgary tonight with 8-7 victory. In this five game playoff preview series to end the regular season, Edmonton scored 5 runs off of 6 hits in the top of the eighth, along with a solo home run in the tenth for the come from behind victory.

Nick Peterson, in his 16th start of the season had a no-decision for Edmonton, going 5IP, with 6H, 6R, 5ER, 7BB, and 3 strikeouts.

Former 'Cat, Phil Sobkow went innings, with 6.0IP, 6H, 2ER, 2R, 3BB and 2 strikeouts.

Calgary lead by seven going into the seventh inning until Johnathan Castro hit into a fielder's choice, to score in Jose Valdez to get the 'Cats on the board.

In the eighth, the 'Cats came roaring back, including RIB doubles from first basemen Joe Jiannetti and center fielder Chris Van Rossum.

Jose Valdez had an RBI single to score in Van Rossum. Catcher John Pasieka got into the action, hitting Edmonton's 4th double of the inning to advance Valdez to third. Marcus Nettles reached first base off an error to score in Valdez to bring the 'Cats within one run. Carlos Arroyo, the ninth hitter of the inning, had an in field single to move Pasieka to third. Pasieka stole home off of a wild pitch to tie the game.

Dave Humen came in relief for Peterson in the sixth, and was very effective, going 4.0IP, 1H, 0R, 0ER, 1BB with 1 strikeout.

Johnathan Castro hit a solo home run, his third of the '08 campaign, to give the 'Cats the go-ahead run in the top of the tenth.

Pete Sikaras came into the game in the bottom of the tenth, and recorded his 19th save of the season.
