
'Cats give up late run, drop 5-4 decision to Calgary

Edmonton, AB-The Edmonton Cracker-Cats began their final regular season home stand Friday night versus the Calgary Vipers dropping the first game, 5-4 in front of 966 fans at Telus Field. The Vipers were looking for revenge in Telus Field tonight, after they dropped the last two games to the âCats in Calgary.
Ricardo Rodriguez got things started for Edmonton. The right-hander went 7.0IP, 10H, 4R, 4ER, 1BB with 6 strikeouts. He was relieved by Brandon Camerdese who went 1.2IP, 2H, 0R, 0ER, 1BB with 2 strikeouts. Dan Touchet came into the game in the eighth, he pitched 0.1IP, giving up one run and one strikeout.
Jeff Groeger pitched 5.1 innings for Calgary, he gave up 9H, 2R, 2ER, 1BB, with 4 strikeouts. Joe Sergent relieved Groeger in the sixth, he went 2.2 IP, with 2H, 2R, 2ER and 5 strikeouts. Mac Suzuki pitched the ninth, he gave up one hit and struck out two to end the game.
Calgary got off to an early lead, but Edmonton managed to tie up in the bottom of the eighth with a two run shot from Joe Jiannetti over the left field wall. It marked Jiannetti's 12th home run of the season.
The comeback fell one run short however, as Calgary jumped out ahead again in the top of the ninth. Edmonton had a runner at third base with none out, but could not manage to bring him home.
