Watertown Wolves News Release
Elmira denied Watertown a sweep in their three-game weekend series taking the final game of the series played at the Watertown Municipal Arena Sunday night.
It was deja vu in the first period as Elmira took a 2-0 lead with goals coming from Ahmed Mahfouz and Tyler Prendergast just three and four minutes into the period. The Wolves successfully killed Lane King's holding penalty. Stepan Timofeyev delivered an ugly boarding to Josh Newberg earning himself a five-minute major just before the nineteen-minute mark.
Elmira added three goals to their lead in the second period with two from Mahfouz, giving him a hat trick on the night, and one from Kyle Stevens. Goal number five was the cue for Watertown's Head Coach Trevor Karasiewicz to switch goalies. Jared Rutledge was switched out of the net for the newly acquired Blake Scott. In the final two minutes of the period Watertown racked up two penalties forty seconds apart, creating a 5-on-3 power play that carried over into the third period.
Watertown's Tim Santopaolo denied Troy Passingham a shutout scoring at the 13:31 mark on assists from Lane King and Justin Coachman. Blake Scott denied all the Enforcers' shots he faced in the net for Watertown.
The first star of the game went to Elmira's Mahfouz for his hat trick. Enforcer Stepan Timofeyev earned the second star with four points on the night. Watertown's Blake Scott was credited the third star for stopping all the shots on goal he faced.
The Wolves will host the Carolina Thunderbirds on Friday, February 22nd in the Watertown Municipal Arena at 7:30 pm.
