Louisville Bats News Release
LOUISVILLE, KY-New third baseman Edwin Encarnacion scored the game-winning run off a Jeff Bannon single to center field in the sixth inning in front of 8,704 fans. The Louisville Bats took the final regular season meeting against the Ottawa Lynx, 2-1, on Thursday night at Louisville Slugger Field.
Encarnacion and second baseman Aaron Herr both finished 2-for-4 on the evening. After doubling to left field to lead off the fourth inning, Herr provided Louisville's first run of the game when Bannon sacrificed him home from third base.
The Lynx (16-14) scored their only run in the second inning when Encarnacion misplayed a groundball hit by Lynx catcher Dusty Wathan, scoring Brennan King. King had singled to center field and advanced to second base off a passed ball.
Wathan went 2-for-4 on the day, but committed the second out of the ninth inning after being struck out by reliever Marcus McBeth, while King ended his evening 1-for-3.
Bats starter Phil Dumatrait (5-1) continued his dominance in the familiar confines, giving up one unearned run off six hits. In 18.2 innings pitched at home this year, his only earned run allowed occurred on April 11 against Columbus. McBeth, who started the season in Sacramento, earned his second save for the Bats and seventh overall for the season.
Ottawa starter J.D. Durbin (0-2) pitched 5.0 innings and allowed two earned runs off six hits, while walking two and striking out three in the losing effort.
The Bats (16-17) welcome the Syracuse Chiefs (14-18) tomorrow night for the second half of the eight-game homestand. RHP Tom Shearn (1-2, 3.12 ERA) for Louisville and RHP Michael MacDonald (0-0, 7.20) for Syracuse are the probable starters for the 7:05p.m. first pitch.
