Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release
LOVELAND, CO - The Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs were beaten in regulation for the first time since mid-November on Saturday night, losing to the Colorado Eagles 5-2 at the Budweiser Events Center.
Eagles goaltender Marco Emond stopped 48 of 50 Mudbugs shots and Ed McGrane scored two goals as the Mudbugs lost a regulation game for the first time since a 4-2 setback against Mississippi on November 17th. Justin Aikins had two assists in defeat for Bossier-Shreveport.
The two teams played a very entertaining first period that featured two goals, a fight between team Captains Chris Brassard and Greg Pankewicz, and some great saves by both goaltenders. Bossier-Shreveport struck first, going up 1-0 on Dale Lupul's third goal of the season. Kevin Cooper worked the puck in the corner before sending it to the point for Lupul's heavy slapshot that beat Marco Emond to give the âBugs the lead. Colorado would get even later in the period though, on Aaron Schneekloth's 12th goal this year.
Then for the second consecutive night, Bossier-Shreveport surrendered three goals in the second period. McGrane scored his first of the night to put Colorado up 2-1 early in the middle frame. The Mudbugs tied it back up on Elias Godoy's fifth goal of the year, after a great setup from Justin Aikins and Ryan Fairbarn. But the Eagles got two more from Greg Pankewicz and another from McGrane to go up 4-2 after two periods.
Bossier-Shreveport had a great chance to get back in the game early in the third, starting the period with 4:42 of powerplay time because of Jay Birnie's five-minute major penalty for checking from behind late in the second. The Mudbugs never could solve Emond though, despite two more powerplays later in the final period. The âBugs peppered Emond with 24 shots in the third period, but the tenth-year pro stopped all of them. A late powerplay goal from Paul Esdale finished off the 5-2 Colorado win.
Final shots for the game were 50 for Bossier-Shreveport and 28 for Colorado . Bossier-Shreveport was 0 for 6 on the powerplay, while Colorado finished 2 for 3.
The Mudbugs will now head home to take on the Eagles again next Friday night at the CenturyTel Center for the second and final time this season. Tickets are available through Ticketmaster or by calling 318-752-BUGS. Opening face-off is set for 7:05 on Friday night between Bossier-Shreveport and Colorado .
