Bucks Fall To Rayz 4-2

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League fell to the Corpus Christi Rayz 4-2 Saturday night in front of 3,725 fans at the American Bank Center. The was the second in a row for Laredo on their road trip (0-1-1), and drops the Bucks record to 16-5-2 (34 points). Laredo lost despite outshooting the Rayz 33-22. This marked the second straight game that the Bucks outshot the Rayz and lost.

The Rayz (6-12-2, 16pts) jumped out on top just 3:48 into the game when they scored a power-play goal. Jon Jankus put in a rebound from the right side of the crease past Bucks goaltender Dustin Traylen making it 1-0. Laredo tied the game up 1-1 at the 11:27 mark, when Brent MacSween put in a rebound from the right crease past Rayz goaltender Jason Tapp. It was MacSween's 10th goal of the season and it was assisted by David Victor and Andrew Desjardins.

Corpus Christi re-took the lead 2-1 a little over two minutes later at the 13:57 mark. Adam Powell broke free past the Bucks defense and scored top shelf past Traylen on a two-on-none break.

The game got off to a rousing start as the two teams combined for 24 penalty minutes in the first period, 11 minutes for the Bucks, 13 minutes for the Rayz. The Bucks outshot the Rayz in the first period 11-8.

The Bucks tied the game just 3:09 into the second period as Alex Penner scored his second goal of the season as poked the puck in past Tapp in the right crease. Desjardins and Steve Simoes picked up assists.

The Rayz re-took the lead at 3-2 at the 4:23 mark when Dereck Smith scored past Traylen. Corpus Christi increased their lead to 4-2 with 1:55 left in the second period as Jay Latullippe scored his first goal for the Rayz in his first game on the roster. Latullippe sent a back-handed rebound past Traylen giving the Rayz a two-goal edge heading into the third. The Bucks outshot the Rayz 11-10 in the period.

The Bucks outshot the Rayz in the third period 11-4, but neither team could light the lamp. Laredo pulled Traylen for the final 2:15 to try and tie the game with an extra attacker.

Traylen picks up the loss in net stopping 18 of 22 Rayz shots, while Tapp picks up his second win in a row against Laredo, setting aside 31 of 33 shots. The Bucks are right back at it again tomorrow afternoon as they host Southwest Division leading Arizona at 4pm.
