[ODESSA, Tex.]-In was a showdown in West Texas that saw the Jackalopes beat the Scorpions 3-1 on Saturday night. The win moved Odessa into sole possession of first place in the Southwest Division.
For the second straight night, Odessa scored the game's first goal. John Kozoriz's rebound goal, on the power play, gave the Jackalopes a 1-0 lead.
The Scorpions fought back in the second period with some hard work. Andrew Smale drove hard to the net and slid a backhand shot through the legs of goalie Alexandre Vincent, tying the game 1-1.
The power play once again proved to be the difference for the Jackalopes. Mario Joly reclaimed the lead for Odessa, one they would never relinquish. Jocelyn Dubord added a late, empty net goal to seal the Jackalopes win.
The next Scorpions game is on Thursday, December 13th when the Scorpions host the Amarillo Gorillas. The puck will drop inside the Santa Ana Star Center at 7:15 p.m. Fans can also get ready for the annual "Salute to the Military Night" on Saturday, December 15th when the Scorps host Rio Grande Valley. New Mexico will wear special themed jersey to be auctioned off after the game, with part of the proceeds benefiting the Blue Star Mothers New Mexico Chapters.
