Elmira edges out Aces
July 1, 2004 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
Aces News Release
After 94 batters came to the plate over the course of twelve innings and two weeks, it only took one swing of the bat by Elmira's Dytarious Edwards to end it. In the continuation of a game suspended on June 17th, Edwards hit a solo home run in the bottom of the twelfth to give the Pioneers the 5-4 walk-off victory over the Aces. Equally impressive was the Steve Checksfield homer in the bottom of the ninth that sent the game into extra innings for Elmira, which had trailed 4-3 and hadn't scored since the third. Brian Ford picked up the win by virtue of pitching scoreless eleventh and twelfth innings, while Raul Rivera earned the loss. Edwards finished the day 4-for-6, and J.P. Schmidt was 3-for-5 with a double for the Aces, who drop to 5-27 with the loss.
