Aces drop second game
July 1, 2004 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
Aces News Release
Saul Solveson was brilliant, pitching seven complete innings while giving up a mere four hits to shut out the Aces and take the second game 3-0. Dennis Abreu tripled in the fourth inning for the Pioneers, then scored on a squeeze play as Rick Elder laid down the bunt with one out. Abreu scored again on a Jason Bryan sacrifice fly in the sixth, making it 2-0 Elmira.
During the following at-bat, the Pioneers executed a double steal, and Ryan Smith's errant throw to third allowed Steve Checksfield to score. That's how it would end, as Solveson continued to stymie the Pioneers through the seventh. Abreu finished 2-for-3 with a triple and two runs, while Keith Strickland earned the loss for the Aces despite allowing just one run on two hits over four. The Aces fell to 5-28 with the defeat, while the Pioneers improved to 12-21.
