
Ellis, Vargas Each Record Three RBIs in 9-6 Loss

RENO, Nev. - The Reno Aces fell in game one of today's doubleheader with the Round Rock Express, 9-6 in seven innings. Drew Ellis and Ildemaro Vargas chipped in three RBIs apiece in the loss.
Round Rock struck first, scoring four in the second and two in the third to take a six-run lead into the bottom of the third inning.
In the bottom of the third, Vargas got the Aces on the board by scoring Jose Herrera with an RBI single. In the next at-bat, Ellis crushed his 13th homer of the season to straight-away center to score Vargas and Juniel Querecuto - making it a 6-4 game.
The homer extended Ellis' team-leading totals in long balls and RBIs (52). The RBI total moves him into a tie for fourth in the Triple-A West.
Round Rock answered in the top of the fourth, scoring three runs to make it 9-4.
RBIs from Vargas in the fifth and seventh would make it a 9-6 final.
Tonight's action will continue with game two of the doubleheader starting at 8:05 p.m. PT in the series finale. Zach Lee will take the mound for Reno, facing Wes Benjamin for Round Rock. The game can be heard on KPLY 630AM or online at RenoAces.com, with Zack Bayrouty on the call.
