Mississippi Braves News Release

PEARL, MS - The Atlanta Braves announced the minor league pitchers and players of the month for April. For the Double-A Mississippi club, right-hander Chris Ellis and shortstop Ozzie Albies were selected for the monthly accolades.

Ole Miss alumnus Chris Ellis made five starts during the month of April, posting a record of 3-0 with a 1.84 ERA. The right-hander held opponents to a .192 batting average in those five contests. The Braves No. 15 prospect is 5-0 with a 1.71 ERA in seven starts this season and ranks eighth among Southern League pitching leaders. Opponents are hitting just .182 against Ellis-best in the league. The Alabama native was acquired by the Braves along with Erick Aybar, Sean Newcomb and cash from the LA Angels in exchange for Andrelton Simmons and Jose Briceno on November 12, 2015.

The 19-year-old Albies was promoted to Triple-A Gwinnett at the end of the month after posting a .369 average with five doubles, two triples and a homer through 22 games. He ranks as the Braves No. 6 prospect and sits at No. 63 among Baseball America's Top 100. Tagged the "Best Infield Arm" among Braves minor leaguers, the Curacao native still leads Southern League hitters in average. Albies still ranks third in OBP (.442) and fifth in slugging percentage (.512). He was signed by the Braves as a non-drafted free agent on July 2, 2013.
