Gerardo Concepcion Transferred to Triple-A Iowa

SEVIERVILLE - Prior to tonight's game, the Chicago Cubs have announced a transaction that impacts their Double-A affiliate Tennessee Smokies roster. LHP Gerardo Concepcion has been transferred to Triple-A Iowa.

Concepcion has been dominant in ten relief apperances this year for Tennessee. The left-hander accrued a 1-0 record with a spotless 0.00 ERA (0 ER in 17.2 IP) and one hold. Concepcion walked just four batters and struck out 17, while holding opponents to a .089 batting average and compiling a eye-popping 0.51 WHIP (5 H + 4 BB + 2 HB in 17.2 IP).

The 24-year old has retired the last 11 batters he has faced dating back to May 5 vs. Mississippi. The Havana, Cuba native was signed by the Cubs to a five-year Major League contract on March 11, 2012. Concepcion now resides in Miami, Fla.

Tennessee's active roster currently stands at 24 players with three players currently on the disabled list. A revised roster is attached.

The Tennessee Smokies continue their five-game series in Montgomery tonight against Biscuits, the Double-A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays. RHP Tyler Skulina (1-2, 3.94 ERA) is expected take the ball for the Smokies. RHP Ryne Stanek (1-4, 3.98 ERA) - Tampa Bay's former first round pick out of the University of Arkansas - is scheduled to get the start for Montgomery.

The Pilot Pre-Game Show will kick off the broadcast at 7:50 p.m. ET, leading up to the 8:05 p.m. ET first pitch from Riverwalk Stadium. Monday night's broadcast can be heard on Sports Radio 99.1 FM and 990 AM WNML exclusively online at SmokiesBaseball.com or via the TuneIn Radio or MiLB First Pitch apps.

After the road trip, the Smokies will return home to America's Frendliest Ballpark to square off against the Birmingham Barons, the Double-A affiliate of the Chicago White Sox, on Saturday, May 14 at 7:05 p.m. ET. The Force will be strong that evening for Star Wars Night featuring special Han Solo-themed uniforms that will be auctioned off to benefit the United Way of Greater Knoxville and Sevier County. There will also be a special light saber giveaway to the first 1,000 fans through the gates, also courtesy of the United Way. Finally, like all Saturday evening games, there will be a stellar fireworks show following the game sponsored by Alzheimer's Tennessee.
