Norfolk Admirals News Release
NORFOLK, Va. - The Norfolk Admirals hockey team and PAPCO will present the eleventh annual MDA Jersey Auction to benefit the Hampton Roads Muscular Dystrophy Association next Saturday, March 19, after the Admirals game against the Albany Devils.
The Admirals will don one-of-a-kind jerseys for Saturday's game. Immediately following the game, a live auction will take place on the ice with the jerseys sold right off the players' backs. Fans may get a preview of the jerseys at norfolkadmirals.com.
Over the past nine seasons, the Admirals have raised $274,950 for MDA through the annual jersey auction.
Admirals players and MDA representatives will be available for media appearances to show the jerseys and talk about the auction all next week (3/14 - 3/19). Please contact Admirals Director of Media Relations Keith Phillips at (757) 640-1212 ext. 12 to schedule an appearance or interview.
The Admirals are also offering discounted fundraising tickets for the game. Tickets are just $10 with $2 of each ticket going back to the local MDA. Tickets are available online at norfolkadmirals.com. Just click on the MDA Jersey Auction banner in the middle of the home page.
The Muscular Dystrophy Association is a voluntary health agency working to defeat neuromuscular diseases, including Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), through programs of worldwide research, comprehensive health and community services, and far reaching professional and public health education. The Association's programs are funded almost entirely by individual private contributors in the local community.
In addition to funding ground-breaking research, Hampton Roads MDA maintains two clinics serving those with neuromuscular diseases including a child's clinic at the Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters and an adult clinic at Sentara Ambulatory Center in downtown Norfolk. There is also a summer camp for children ages 6-17 with muscle-wasting diseases in Wakefield, VA. For more information, go to www.mda.org or call the local office at 757-420-3172.
