El Paso Chihuahuas News Release

El Paso 2 Tacoma 0 - Saturday WP: Overton (6-5) LP: Povse (1-3) S: Quackenbush (3) Time: 2:44 Attn: 6,492

Dillon Overton put together his best El Paso Chihuahuas start to date Saturday night, as the Chihuahuas shut out the Tacoma Rainiers 2-0. Overton tossed seven shutout innings against his former team, then relievers Jose Valdez and Kevin Quackenbush pitched a scoreless inning each. It was El Paso's fifth team shutout of the season.

After 4.2 hitless innings, the Chihuahuas struck back-to-back singles in the fifth, including an RBI line drive by Jose Rondon. Rocky Gale stopped a potential double steal with two outs in the bottom of the eighth when he threw out Gordon Beckham trying to steal second base, ending the inning. Christian Villanueva's solo home run in the top of the ninth provided the other Chihuahuas' run.

El Paso pitching limited Tacoma to only five hits Saturday, all singles. The Rainiers did not have any runners reach third base. The Chihuahuas have allowed only nine runs in their last five games. El Paso has won nine of its last 13 contests.

The Chihuahuas are now in second place, one game back from first place Salt Lake.
