Late Errors Sink Iowa

DES MOINES, IA - The Colorado Springs Sky Sox (72-51) broke a 2-2 tie in the eighth inning and the Iowa Cubs (61-64) quickly unraveled, eventually falling 7-3, Friday at Principal Park.

A messy eighth led to the I-Cubs' demise. Iowa added two errors, a wild pitch and a hit batter to Colorado Springs' four hits, leading to a four-run inning for the visitors. Bjian Rademacher helped the I-Cubs fight back with a homer to straight away center in the bottom of the frame, but the Sky Sox added an insurance run in the ninth to run away with the game.

Pierce Johnson made the spot start for Iowa, fanning seven through three frames. His only misstep came in the second as three-straight hits opened the inning for the Sky Sox, leading to two runs. Johnson did not allow another hit and walked just one.

Iowa's scoring began in the first, sparked by a John Andreoli leadoff double. The I-Cubs played small ball to bring in the run as Andreoli advanced on a sacrifice bunt and scored on a sacrifice fly from Jacob Hannemann. The I-Cubs tied it up in the seventh in the exact same fashion, though Chris Dominguez claimed the leadoff double and Elliot Soto the RBI.

Dominguez had a breakout game, going 2-for-3 for his first multi-hit game since July 29. He was the only I-Cub to record more than one hit.

Iowa hits the road for four games at Nashville beginning tomorrow. The team returns home on Thursday, August 24 for their final four home games of the 2017 season. For more information or tickets, visit www.iowacubs.com .
