Harrisburg Senators News Release
The Harrisburg Senators scored eight runs in the eighth inning, and defeated the Altoona Curve on Sunday afternoon at Metro Bank Park, by a 13-4 final score. The win came one night after the Curve beat the Sens, 18-15, by scoring ten in the top of the ninth.
On Sunday, the game was close until the eighth, with the Senators (46-49) leading 5-2 when the frame began. That 5-2 lead came about only because the Sens had scored two runs in the sixth, and two in the seventh, to overcome a 2-1 deficit. In the sixth, Tim Pahuta's sacrifice fly drove in Jesus Valdez, and Brad Coon's RBI single scored Chris Marrero. Danny Espinosa's two-run home run in the seventh inning scored Michael Martinez, and put the Sens up three.
The Sens also took the first lead in the game, with a single run in the second inning. Newcomer Devin Ivany scored the run, on a sacrifice fly by Adam Fox. Altoona scored a run apiece in the third and the fourth, to take the 2-1 lead. The runs came off of Sens starter Andrew Kown (4-4), who threw six strong innings to pick up the win. Starter Justin Wilson (7-5) took the loss for the Curve.
The big eighth inning saw twelve men come to the plate for the Sens, and eight runs on six hits and three walks. Coon, Marrero (2), Ivany, Pahuta (2), and Michael Martinez picked up RBI in the inning. On the game, the Sens had 14 hits, including three from Pahuta. Marrero, Ivany, and Coon each had two.
The Sens have three games remaining in their seven-game homestand, all against the New Britain Rock Cats. The Rock Cats are last in the Eastern League with a 28-66 record. On Monday night, LHP Tom Milone (6-5, 3.18) starts for the Senators, against RHP David Bromberg (5-5, 3.62) of New Britain. The first pitch is scheduled for 7 PM, with radio coverage beginning at 6:45 PM. Fans can tune in on 1460 AM The Ticket or on www.senatorsbaseball.com.
