TONIGHT: The Richmond Flying Squirrels and Bowie Baysox will meet in the finale of a four-game series...The Flying Squirrels ended a four-game losing streak with a 5-2 win in game three of the series on Saturday night at The Diamond.
TONIGHT'S STARTERS: Right-hander Craig Westcott gets the start in the series finale for the Flying Squirrels...Had his last outing at Altoona suspended in the bottom of the fourth inning...Allowed three runs on six hits in 3 1/3 innings...Walked three batters and struck out none...Gave up all three runs and three hits along with two walks in the first inning...Faced eight batters and threw 37 pitches, 19 balls, 18 strikes...Threw 69 pitches, 37 strikes...Recorded six ground outs and three fly outs...Is 13-1 with a 2.20 ERA (30ER/123.0 IP) in 29 games, 22 starts, as a pro...Team is 19-3 in his 22 career starts...Began season with Advanced-A San Jose...Went 6-0 with a 1.83 ERA in 13 starts...Struck out 53 batters and walked 32...Ranked second in the California League in ERA and was fourth in batting average against (.242)...Began the season tossing 18 consecutive scoreless innings spanning four starts (4/9-4/29)...Club was 12-1 in his 13 starts...Was named an California League Mid-Season All-Star...Was the starting pitcher and struck out the side... GRAND FINALE?: Richmond is 11-15 in series finales this season...Each of the club's last two wins in the series' final game came against Erie (6/27 & 7/4)...The last victory in a finale for the Flying Squirrels against an Eastern League opponent aside from the SeaWolves was 6/14 at Reading.
GETTING OFFENSIVE: The Flying Squirrels are hitting .306 (34-for-111) through the first three games of the series with the Baysox...The club has registered at least 11 hits in all three games...Overall on the season the Flying Squirrels are hitting .254 against Bowie pitching...Richmond is just 5-for-28 (.179) with runners in scoring position over the last three games and has stranded 24 runners on base (8RS/G)...Overall on the season, the club is hitting .208 with runners in scoring position.
TAKING THE BELT-WAY: First baseman Brandon Belt has hits in each of his last 11 games...Over the last 11 contests, the 22-year-old is 20-for-45 (.444) with a double, a triple, five home runs, eight RBI, and eight runs scored...In 89 games combined between Advanced-A San Jose and Double-A Richmond, Belt leads all of minor league baseball in batting average (.388) and on-base percentage (.488) and is third in slugging percentage (.653) and ranks fourth in hits (123).
THE WEATHER MAN: Third baseman Conor Gillaspie is hitting .390 (16-for-41) in 13 games this month...Only two of his 16 hits have gone for extra bases (a double and a triple)...He has walked four times and has struck out five times so far this month...Gillaspie is hitting .308 (49-for-159) in 42 games on the road while batting just .236 (38-for-161) in 45 games at home.
ERROR OMISSION: The Flying Squirrels have gone seven consecutive games without committing an error, the longest streak without an error for the club on the season...Richmond had previously gone six straight games without an error 6/5-6/11...Richmond currently leads the Eastern League in fielding percentage (.983) and has committed the second-fewest errors (61).
DOUBLETREE DOWNTOWN DOUBLE PLAYS: The Richmond Flying Squirrels have turned 123 double plays in 93 games including six on 5/7 in Harrisburg...The club leads the Eastern League in double plays turned and has not gone more than two games without turning a double play.
CFS STAT OF THE NIGHT: Eight of the nine batters in the Flying Squirrels starting line up recorded at least one hit last night...The only Richmond batter not to get a hit was outfielder Thomas Neal who had a five-game hitting streak snapped after going 0-for-3 with a walk.
