June 17, 2007 - International League (IL1)
Ottawa Lynx News Release
The Lynx had a dramatic ninth-inning rally to tie the game and sent the home fans home happy with the winner in the bottom of the 11th. Columbus outfielder Brandon Watson extended his hit streak to 43 games, setting a new International League record for longest consecutive hit streak.
The win bumps the Lynx record to 29-36 while Columbus falls to 31-38.
Lynx Player Of The Day: Joe Thurston tied the Lynx team record with five hits against Columbus, scoring three times and driving in a run. No Lynx player had notched five hits in a game since June 2005.
Game Recap: The Lynx offence got on track right from the first inning, jumping out to a six-run lead by the end of the third. Gary Burnham and Jim Rushford each drove in a run in the first. Pedro Swann led off the second inning with a solo home run before Joe Thurston and Burnham got RBIs in the second. Pitcher J.D. Durbin smacked an RBI single in the third to put the Lynx up 6-0. But Columbus chipped away at the Lynx advantage with a run in the fifth before tying the game with five runs in the sixth. Columbus would take the lead with a pair of runs in the eighth to take a late lead. But it wouldn't be the Clippers' day, as the Lynx rattled off two runs in the bottom of the ninth on a Gary Burnham home run, sending this Father's Day matinee to extra innings. After a scoreless 10th inning, the Lynx earned their series split when Jim Rushford singled home Jason Jaramillo to complete the scoring and send the Lynx home 9-8 winners.
Next Game: The Lynx welcome the two-time defending Governors Cup champion Toledo Mud Hens for the first game of their four-game set Monday night at Lynx Stadium. Game time is 7:05 pm.
