Durham Bulls News Release
Durham, NC - Justin Ruggiano, Chris Richard and Joel Guzman drove in four runs to break a 3-3 tie with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the Bulls a 7-3 win over the Indianapolis Indians on Sunday evening at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park. The win pushed the Bulls back to .500 (35-35) as they took three of four from the Indians, the first place team in the International League.
The Bulls started scoring when Indians starter RHP John Wasdin was lifted after striking out 12 (including the last five batters he faced) in 7 2/3 innings, surrendering the three runs on five hits and no walks. LHP (0-1) Juan Perez entered the game and gave up a double to Elliot Johnson, who then advanced to third when right fielder Yurendell de Caster had difficulty fielding the ball. Perez left the game after intentionally walking Rocco Baldelli, but was charged with the loss when Ruggiano drove Johnson home with a base hit off his replacement, RHP Mike Nannini, to give the Bulls a 4-3 edge. Richard followed with a base hit to score Baldelli from third, and then Guzman earned two RBI as he cleared the bases with a double to give the Bulls a 7-3 lead.
RHP Jae Seo started for the Bulls, working five innings and giving up three runs, five hits, and one walk with three strikeouts. He was relieved by RHP Seth McClung, who pitched a scoreless sixth inning and then worked his way out of bases loaded, no-out jam in the seventh inning without surrendering a run. RHP Scott Dohmann (3-1) earned the win, as he pitched the final two innings, surrendering just one hit and striking out one.
Indianapolis scored first when Brad Eldred hit a two-run home run in the first inning. The Bulls also displayed their offensive power, as Baldelli hit a solo home run in the fourth inning and Jeremy Owens did the same in the fifth inning to tie the game at three.
Scranton Wilkes-Barre will make their first trip to Durham as the "Yankees" to face the Bulls on Monday night at 7 PM at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park. For tickets, go to www.durhambulls.com or call the box office at (919) 956-BULL.
