Lexington Legends News Release

The Lexington Legends scored three runs in the eighth inning to pull away for a 6-3 win over Lake County Wednesday night. The victory helped the Legends keep pace with first place Hagerstown. The Legends trail the Suns by one game, the Captains have begun to fade trailing by 4.5 games in the Northern Division.

Lexington bolted from the gate thanks to Hunter Pence' two-run homer in the first inning. The blast traveled an estimated 467 feet making it the longest ever hit at Applebee's Park. Pence' homer bumps Jon Topolski's 451 ft. homer struck in the 2001 playoffs against Hagerstown.

The Captains bounced back to tie the game in the third inning on back-to-back home runs. Chris Gimenez and Juan Valdez took Juan Gutierrez deep.

Lexington regained a brief lead with a run in the fifth inning. Frankie Caraballo led off with a single and scored on Ben Zobrist' double. Lake County equaled the Legends effort with a run in the top of the sixth inning. Brian Finnegan singled and scored on Mike Butia' single.

The game remained tied until the eighth. With the bases loaded, Chris Clark singled in two. Frankie Caraballo's sacrifice fly scored Mitch Einertson to give Lexington a 6-3 lead.

Enyelbert Soto (2-1) pitched 1/3 of an inning to record his second win of the year. One day after picking up his sixth win, Chad Reineke grabbed his second save of the year. Scott Roehl (2-3) suffered his third loss of the season.

Lexington will send Jimmy Barthmaier to the mound to try and get the sweep. Lake County will be seeking to avoid it with Aaron Laffey. First pitch is set for 7:05. The Progressive Direct pre-game show will begin at 6:50.
