
BlueClaws Fall in Hagerstown to Suns

Hagerstown, MD â The Lakewood BlueClaws (17-37) and the Hagerstown Suns (33-19), Single-A affiliate of the New York Mets, continued their series Wednesday morning with Lakewood falling to the Suns 7-3. The BlueClaws could not overcome a six run fifth dropping game three of their four game series to the Suns.
The BlueClaws took a 2-0 lead in the top of the fourth and starter Derek Griffith cruised through the first four innings not allowing a hit. Griffith ran into trouble in the fifth though allowing six runs on six hits as Hagerstown batted around and took a 6-2 lead.
Ambiorix Concepcion led off the inning with a base hit then scored on Jesus Flores's RBI double. With one out in the inning Tyler Davidson singled and Russ Triplett followed up with an RBI base hit to tie the game up at 2-2. Griffith was able to get Carlos Gomez to pop out for the second out but then surrendered a three-run homer to Wilson Batista and a solo-homer to Grant Psomas and the Suns were up 6-2.
Lakewood scored in the fourth when Doug Gredvig connected for his first homer of the year, a two-out two-run shot to left scoring Sam Orr. Gredvig finished the day 3-for-4 with a double, a home run and three RBI's.
Hagerstown made it 7-3 in the eighth when Concepcion scored on a wild pitch from Jacob Barrack. Conception reached on a base hit then advanced to second on Chris Klemm's error. Conception then stole third base before scoring on the wild pitch.
Griffith (L, 2-4) was lifted after the fifth inning having allowed six runs on six hits while walking nobody and striking three. Adam Schafer pitched two innings of scoreless ball in relief for the BlueClaws while Jacob Barrack allowed one run on one hit in one inning worth of work.
The BlueClaws wrap up their series with Hagerstown Thursday night. Lakewood will send right-hander Maximino De La Cruz (1-7, 5.47) to the mound. The Suns will counter with right-hander Jose Sanchez (9-0, 2.45). First pitch is at 6:35 p.m. with on-air time at 6:20 p.m. on 1310 WADB and www.blueclaws.com.
This season, the Lakewood BlueClaws are celebrating their fifth anniversary of providing great fun in the Jersey sun. Among the great promotions, fireworks every Friday night home game and kids eat free Monday Nights courtesy of Shop Rite. In addition, the BlueClaws will host games against the New York Mets affiliate.
