Waterloo Black Hawks News Release

Waterloo Black Hawk Captain Brock Montpetit recorded his first USHL hat trick Saturday, leading the home team past the Chicago Steel in an 8-3 matchup at Young Arena.

Montpetit notched a goal in each period, the first during a four-on-four situation, the second during a power play, and the third just seconds after an advantage had ended. He also added an assist for four points, which matches his career high. Derek Arnold set up two Montpetit goals while accumulating four assists, equaling his best point production from a single game during a season-and-a-half in Waterloo.

Chicago scored first and last Saturday, with Dan Kolomatis netting the opening tally 46 seconds after the opening faceoff. J.T. Brown and Patrick Divjak scored on power plays to tie the game, then give the Hawks their first lead just past the eight minute mark. Montpetit's first came with just under three minutes before intermission.

Waterloo added four more in the second period with Jamie Hill and Montpetit scoring on the power play in short succession. Jimmy Siers and Brown added goals later with just 1:01 in between. Montpetit completed the hat trick with a shot from the left circle to the opposite top corner at 7:57 of the third. Kevin Lind and Greg Wolfe added to the Steel total at 8:50 and 14:13 respectively.

The Hawks and Steel meet for a rematch Sunday at the Edge Ice Arena beginning at 3 PM.
