Waterloo Black Hawks News Release

Waterloo, Iowa-Veteran Waterloo Black Hawks forwards Brock Montpetit and Tyler Barnes have been selected to participate in the 2010 USHL All-Star game at Pepsi Coliseum in Indianapolis, the United States Hockey League announced Friday.

"Brock and Tyler really represent how this league can help a player grow," said Waterloo Black Hawks Head Coach P.K. O'Handley. "When they came to the Black Hawks, they were talented. Now both have taken their skill to another level by making the most of the opportunity to play against really good opponents for 60 games a season."

Montpetit is spending his third season in Waterloo. The team Captain currently leads the Black Hawks with 15 goals, 20 assists, and 35 points. He is also second on the team in plus-minus (+11). Montpetit is tied for seventh in league scoring during 2009-2010. Committed to the University of Nebraska-Omaha, he will leave an impression on the Black Hawks' record book when he departs after the season. During the franchise's junior hockey era, Montpetit is tied for ninth in career assists (66), tied for 16th in career points (106), and tied for 33rd in career goals (40).

In his second year, Barnes has surpassed the point total from his rookie season in fewer than half the games. In 55 appearances as a Black Hawk last season, Barnes recorded nine goals and 17 assists; this year he has already accumulated 31 points in 28 games. Barnes has eight multipoint games this season. He set a career-high with four points against the Lincoln Stars on November 7th, then matched it the next time Waterloo took the ice, six days later against the Tri City Storm.

The 2010 USHL All-Star game in Indianapolis will be played on Tuesday, January 26th between teams from the USHL Eastern and Western Divisions. Montpetit is appearing in the USHL All-Star game for the second time in his career. During the 2008 game in Green Bay, he scored the first goal of the night, helping the Eastern Division to a 6-5 shootout win. By being honored with a place on the roster this season, he joins former teammates Nick Larson and Matt DiGirolamo among the eight two-time All-Stars in modern Black Hawks' franchise history.
