
Bucs get big win

Veterans H.T. Lenz and J.P. Burkemper led the Des Moines Buccaneers to a key victory over Western Division rival and leader, Omaha Lancers tonight at Buccaneer Arena. Both players scored goals in the 5-4 win.
Des Moines opened the scoring with T.J. Tynan scoring a goal early in the first period. But Omaha responded with 2 goals to end the first period, 2-1.
The Bucs answered back in the second period with a goal from Chris Stafne and a powerplay goal from Jack Berger, making it 3-3 after two periods.
Lenz scored 7 seconds into the third period putting the Bucs back in the lead before Omaha tied it at 4-4. Burkemper would score the game winning goal, on a powerplay, with 7 minutes to go and the Bucs would hold on to win, 5-4.
Eric Mihalik got the win in net, stopping 22 of 26 shots. The Buccaneers went 2 for 5 on the powerplay. Burkemper and Lenz were named stars of the game.
The win tonight gave the Buccaneers a 14-17-1 record on the season - 5th in the West Division, jumping ahead of Sioux City in the standings. The Buccaneers go for their third win in a row next Thursday night as they host the Indiana Ice at Buccaneer Arena at 7 p.m.
