Edquist Named to USHL/NHL Top Prospects Game
December 15, 2015 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Madison Capitols News Release
Madison, WI - The Madison Capitols got another piece of history checked off on Tuesday as goaltender Ryan Edquist (Lakeville, Minn.) was chosen to the USHL/NHL Top Prospects Game roster. The game will take place on Tuesday, Jan. 12 at 7:05 p.m. inside Ralston Arena, the home of the Omaha Lancers. Fans can purchase tickets to the game by clicking here: http://bit.ly/1Qqrlaw.
The 17-year-old Edquist is in his first full USHL season with the Capitols, as well as the only goaltender selected to the game that is in his first year of NHL Draft eligibility.
The University of Minnesota commit has been strong all season for the Capitols, posting sparkling marks of a 2.55 goals-against average and a .923 save percentage, both of which lead USHL rookie netminders. Edquist's first USHL victory came in the form of a 40-save shutout and a USHL/CCM Goaltender of the Week distinction following a 4-0 win on Oct. 10 in Muskegon.
In total, the USHL/NHL Top Prospects game features 40 NHL Draft-eligible skaters ahead of the 2016 NHL Entry Draft this June. Last season, 13 Top Prospects Game participants were drafted by NHL teams, including two in the first round.
Since the Top Prospect Game's inception three years ago, 46 participants have been chosen in the NHL Draft, including four goaltenders.
Edquist becomes the first player in Capitols history to be selected to play in the USHL/NHL Top Prospects Game. It comes just four months after Edquist participated in the CCM/USA All American Prospects Game in Buffalo on Sept. 24.
Edquist and the Capitols will look to get out of their rough patch on Friday as they host the Lincoln Stars at the Alliant Energy Center. Puck drops at 7:05 p.m. on 106.7 FM, 1670 AM, The Zone. Tickets for the Ugly Sweater game are on sale at www.MadCapsHockey.com or by calling (608) 257-CAPS (2277). Fans are also encouraged to bring out a frozen turkey to donation to the Salvation Army upon entry.
