Sioux Falls Stampede News Release
Sioux Falls, SD - The United States Hockey League (USHL) announced Tuesday that Stampede forward Collin Peters and defenseman Justin Wells have been named to the 2016 USHL/NHL Top Prospects Game on January 12th in Omaha, NE. The game will be played at Ralston Arena, home of the Omaha Lancers. You can purchase tickets to the game now by clicking here.
The selection process for players competing in the game was completed in cooperation with NHL general managers and scouts, NHL Central Scouting and USHL general managers. All 40 players chosen are eligible for the 2016 NHL Draft, including 27 players that are in their first year of eligibility for the NHL Draft.
Peters is currently in his second season with the Stampede and ranks second on the team in scoring with 18 points (9g, 9a) and a plus-6 rating in 24 games. He is currently skating with Team USA at the World Jr. A Challenge in Canada. The Sheboygan, Wisconsin native was acquired from the Stampede in a trade with Muskegon last year and went on to help lead the club to their second Clark Cup championship title in team history. Prior to joining the Stampede, Peters tallied 45 points (34g, 11a) in just 14 games with Sheboygan High School in Wisconsin. He has already committed to play collegiate hockey at Northern Michigan University.
Wells was selected by the Stampede in the 2014 USHL Phase II Draft and spent last season skating with the Cleveland Barons U16 of the Tier I Elite Hockey League where he registered 21 points on 8 goals and 21 assists in 32 games. The North Canton, Ohio native also skated in two games for the Herd last season. This year, Wells has registered three assists and a plus-2 rating in 16 games with the Stampede. He was most recently listed as a "C" skater by NHL Central Scouting in their Preliminary 2015 November Players to Watch list for the 2016 NHL Draft. A "C" rating indicates a potential 4th, 5th or 6th round candidate for draft in Buffalo. Wells has already committed to Bowling Green State University.
The 40 players will be split into two 20-man teams - Team East and Team West - for the 2016 USHL/NHL Top Prospects Game, and the teams mostly will represent a split of players currently competing in the USHL's Eastern Conference and Western Conference.
The Stampede will play in their final game before the holiday break this Friday at 7:05 PM in Fargo against the Force. Fans can listen live on KELO News Talk 1320-AM, 107.9-FM and KELO.COM. The Herd return home on December 29th at 7:05 PM for Furniture Mart Family Night where fans can get 4 tickets, 4 hot dogs, 4 sodas and 1 large popcorn for just $49!
