Edmonton Oil Kings Select Tomas Vincour In CHL Import Draft
June 27, 2007 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Edmonton Oil Kings News Release
The Edmonton Oil Kings used the first pick of the 2007 Canadian Hockey League Import Draft to select Czech forward Tomas Vincour. In 41 games playing for Kometa Brno in the Under 20 Czech Junior League, the 16-year old Vincour had 15 goals, 24 assists, 39 points and 58 PIMS. He has also played 5 career games in the Czech 1.Liga (pro 1st division). Vincour, a 6'2", 198-pound forward, was born in 1990, and will be eligible for the NHL Entry Draft in 2009.
The CHL Import Draft involves every team from the Western Hockey League, Ontario Hockey League, and the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. All CHL teams are allowed to have two European players on their rosters. During the 2007 Expansion Draft, the Oil Kings added one European player to their roster when they selected Robin Figren from the Calgary Hitmen. As the lone expansion team in the WHL, the Edmonton Oil Kings were awarded the first overall pick in this year's Import Draft. Last year's top pick was Jakub Voracek of the Halifax Mooseheads, who was drafted 7th overall in the recent 2007 NHL Entry Draft by the Columbus Blue Jackets.
"We are very excited to have drafted Tomas with the first pick in the CHL Import Draft," said Bob Green, General Manager of the Edmonton Oil Kings. "Tomas is a highly skilled forward with potential to be an outstanding player in this league. We've heard some great things about this player and look forward to seeing him at our training camp in late August."
"Tomas is very excited to be coming to North America next season," said Gerry Johannson, agent for Tomas Vincour. "It's extra special for him to have been selected as the first pick in the CHL Import Draft, especially by a franchise like the Oil Kings. Tomas is also looking forward to playing in a great hockey city like Edmonton."
