Edinburg Roadrunners News Release
For the second consecutive night a pitchers duel took place at Edinburg Baseball Stadium and a game that ended before 10:00 pm. However, Wednesday night the 1-0 final was awarded to the San Angelo Colts after rain brought the game tight game to a close after seven innings.
Edinburg starter Carlos Jan allowed one earned run in the start in just six innings of work. Jan, (0-2) walked four and struck out five in his second home start of the season.
The only run of the game for San Angelo came in the third inning. San Angelo shortstop Eric Harryman led of the inning with a single up the middle. A wild pitch by Jan would advance Harryman to second and a groundout to first advanced him to third with only one out. Ronnie Gaines then flied near the foul line in right that was deep enough to score Harryman for the first and only run of the ball game.
Edinburg had a couple of chances to rally, but were foiled by two base running blunders by Nelson Teilon. He was out at third base in the fourth inning in an attempt to tag and advance on a flyout by Alexis Hernandez. He was then doubled off of first base in the seventh as he lazily trotted back to first base before Bryce Morrison gunned him down for what would end up being the final out.
The teams were pulled off the field at roughly 9:15 before ULB Umpire Chief Woodie Belle ended the game at 9:33. The two teams will complete their series on Thursday night. Bric Steed will take the mound for Edinburg and San Angelo pitching coach Darryll Roque will throw for he Colts with a scheduled 7:05 start time.
The Edinburg Coyotes are members of United League Baseball, an independent league of six professional baseball teams located in Texas and Louisiana. The United League is in its second season this summer with teams located in Amarillo, Edinburg, Laredo, Harlingen, and San Angelo, Texas; and Alexandria, Louisiana.
