Don't Call It A Comeback

ALEXANDRIA, LA - The Amarillo Dillas tried to repeat a July 6th eighth inning comeback against the Alexandria Aces with three runs in the eighth inning but could not come all the way back as the Dillas fell 8-7 on Wednesday afternoon at Bringhurst Field in front of a crowd of 1,192.

Dillas starter Jorge Lugo (5-3) got the loss as he went only two innings and allowed five runs off seven hits. Aces starter Bryan Bunyan (3-0) went five innings and gave up four runs on four hits in the win. Alexandria closer Justin Dowdy allowed a walk but pitched a scoreless ninth for his league-leading 15th save. Amarillo's Rick Owens Jr. went 2-4 with two doubles, two RBI and a run scored in the effort.

Alexandria took a first inning lead with two runs off two doubles by Josh Tranum and Luis Guance, but Amarillo came back in the second with a two-RBI double by Rick Owens Jr. to tie the game at 2-2.

The Aces would score three runs in the second off five hits and an error to take a three-run lead, but the Dillas would comeback again with two runs on a bases loaded two-RBI single by Brett Donahoo to cut the deficit to 5-4.

Alexandria would score an unearned run in the third, and scored twice in the seventh to move up 8-4. Amarillo came up in the eighth looking for a comeback. Gary Schneidmiller singled and went to second on a wild pitch to start out the inning. With two outs, Jack Chapman singled to score Schneidmiller, Owens doubled to move two runners in scoring position. Pinch hitter Justin Wenger singled to score Chapman while Owens scored on a Jordan Ramos single to bring the Dillas within one at 8-7.

Amarillo came up in the ninth against Dowdy, put one runner on but couldn't hit him around to fall to the Aces 8-7.

With the loss, the Dillas fall to 13-9 on the second-half of the season and 39-33 overall. Thursday, the Dillas will take on Alexandria for the final game of a four-game series at 7:05 pm with Dillas Pre-Game set to begin at 6:50 pm on 1010 AM The Canyon and online via AudioSportsOnline.com. Game time is tentative and is subject to blackout.
