Kinston Indians News Release
Kinston starter Ryan Edell snagged his ninth win of the season, going seven strong innings in a 3-2 victory over Winston-Salem Friday night. Edell (9-3) gave up just five hits and two earned runs, while striking out six on his 24th birthday. Reliever Mike Finocchi helped the cause, making a key pick-off of Winston-Salem speedster Robert Valido in the eighth inning to take the tying run off the bases. Scott Roehl finished it off in the ninth inning, striking out the side for his 13th save of the season. Roehl is a perfect 5-for-5 in save opportunities against the Warthogs this season.
Tied 2-2 in the bottom of the seventh inning, Nathan Panther led off by getting hit by a pitch. Josh Rodriguez then got a fly ball by Winston-Salem's left fielder to put runners on second and third. After a walk to Jose Constanza loaded the bases with no outs, a ground ball by Jerad Head was mishandled by short-stop Robert Valido and Panther scored the winning run. Max Ramirez went 2-for-3; driving in the first two runs of the game on two-out, RBI singles in both the first and third innings.
The Indians return to Kinston's Grainger Stadium on Saturday night for game two of the three game series. Kevin Dixon (6-3, 3.79) takes the mound for the K-Tribe.
