Eddie Milner To Join Dragons TV Crew On Friday
April 28, 2010 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Dayton Dragons News Release
DAYTON, OH - The Dayton Dragons will televise games on Friday, April 30 and Saturday, May 1 from Fifth Third Field. Former Cincinnati Reds outfielder Eddie Milner will serve as the guest commentator on the television broadcast on Friday. On Saturday, former Reds Assistant Director of Player Development Grant Griesser will handle the duties of color commentary. The Dragons host the Bowling Green Hot Rods at Fifth Third Field both nights at 7:00 p.m.
Games can be seen on WHIO Digital Channel 7.2 (Time Warner Basic Cable Channel 23 and Digital Channel 372). Dragons Director of Broadcasting and Media Relations Tom Nichols will handle the play-by-play.
Milner, a native of Columbus, played college baseball at Central State University before being selected by the Reds in the 1976 draft. He reached the Major Leagues in 1980 and became the Reds starting center fielder in 1982.
Milner spent nine years in the Major Leagues including eight seasons with the Reds. His best seasons came in 1983, when he stole 41 bases for the Reds, batting .261 with nine home runs, and 1986, when he belted a career-high 15 home runs and hit .259. Milner was an outstanding defensive center fielder and an excellent base stealer. He was also a solid contact hitter and one of the best bunters in the National League.
Milner was a key player for the Reds teams of 1985 and '86 that finished second in the National League Western Division under player/manager Pete Rose. His teammates on those teams also included Dave Concepcion, Dave Parker, Ron Oester, Mario Soto, and Nick Esasky.
Griesser, a two-time All- Mid American Conference catcher at Miami University, played in the Kansas City Royals organization before embarking on a career in player development. He served in a role as a Minor League Baseball executive with the Vero Beach Dodgers before joining the Reds, where he was Assistant Director of Player Development from 2001-2007. He was inducted into the Oak Hills High School Athletic Hall of Fame earlier this year.
The Dragons will televise 15 games this season from Fifth Third Field. The games are coordinated by the Dragons in-house production department. Sean Coffman serves as Executive Director of the telecasts.
