MWL1 Quad Cities River Bandits

Bandits Drop Second Straight In Kane County

April 28, 2010 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Quad Cities River Bandits News Release

The Quad Cities River Bandits had just four hits in Wednesday's contest, all of which were long balls, and lost in walk-off fashion in game two of a three game series with the Kane County Cougars.

Dan Calhoun (0-0) made his second start of the season for the River Bandits, pitching four scoreless innings. Calhoun struck out four and walked just two without allowing a hit. Calhoun's piggyback partner, Joe Kelly (2-1), pitched in relief. Kelly allowed one run on five hits in three innings of work, surrendering just one walk and fanning five. Christopher Corrigan (1-0) threw just a third of an inning and let three unearned runs cross the plate. Aaron Terry (0-2) was saddled with his second loss. Terry pitched the final inning giving up three runs on four hits. Bo Schultz (2-0) was the winning pitcher with 0.2 innings of work, not allowing a run.

Offensively, the River Bandits hit four home runs, the most in a game thus far this season, but their long balls could not overcome the Cougars' late-inning heroics. Jason Stidham hit his first homer of 2010, a two-run bomb in the first, following a leadoff walk by shortstop Ryan Jackson. Ryde Rodriguez hit a two-run dinger in the fourth, his second of the season. Matt Adams plated the fifth run of the game for the Bandits by hitting a solo shot in the sixth inning; his fourth long ball of the season giving the Bandits a 5-0 lead. Kane County picked up four runs in the late innings and trailed 5-4 going into the ninth. Edgar Lara hit his first big fly of the season in the top of ninth to take a two-run lead. Terry allowed three runs in the bottom half to give Quad Cities its second straight loss.

The Bandits look to salvage the final game of the series tomorrow at Philip B. Elfstrom Stadium in Geneva, Illinois. Game time is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. Right-hander Scott Schneider (2-0) is slated to start for the third time this season, he will face off against fellow righty Rob Gilliam (0-1).
