Dragons Fall 4-1 to Lake County

Dayton, Ohio - Lake County starting pitcher Clayton Cook fired six shutout innings as the Captains defeated the Dayton Dragons 4-1 before a crowd of 8,131 on Wednesday night at Fifth Third Field. Dayton fell to 10-10 with the loss. Lake County improved to 15-5 with the win.

The Captains scored two runs in the first inning to take an early lead, keyed by an RBI double by Jeremie Tice. They added singled runs in the third and fifth innings.

Dayton did not mount a threat against Lake County pitching until the ninth. Cook allowed just three hits over six innings while walking two and striking out two. Reliever Rob Bryson retired all six batters he faced in the seventh and eighth innings, striking out three. Neither pitcher allowed a runner beyond second base.

The Dragons scored their only run in the ninth on a one-out single by Henry Rodriguez, a wild pitch, and a double with two outs by Byron Wiley.

Dayton outhit Lake County 5-4. Rodriguez went 2 for 4 to lead the way.

Dragons starting pitcher Jacob Johnson (0-2) suffered the loss. He worked five innings, allowing three hits and four runs (two earned) with three walks and three strikeouts.

The Dragons host Lake County again Thursday at 7:00 p.m. at Fifth Third Field in the rubber match of the three-game series. Josh Ravin (0-1, 1.37) will start for Dayton against Lake County's Trey Haley (0-0, 6.00). The Captains are the Midwest League affiliates of the Cleveland Indians.
