Generals' power play scores three goals to hand Grrrowl road loss

GREENSBORO, NC - The East Coast Hockey League's Greenville Grrrowl lost 5-2 on the road to the Greensboro Generals Friday dropping their record to 2-2 on the current five-game road trip..

David Bell opened the scoring with his second goal of the season on assists from Zdenek Blatny and Martin Masa 9:34 into the first period giving the Grrrowl a 1-0 lead, but Greensboro tied the game and then took the lead with a pair of goals 1:12 apart late in the period.

Jeff Zehr tied the score at 1-1 with his 15th goal of the season on assists from Jeff Bes and Dmitri Markvosky at 17:52. Andrei Lupandin then made it 2-1 with a power-play goal, his 17th goal of the season, on assists from Bes and Chris Brassard at 19:04.

James Desmarais gave Greensboro a 3-1 lead 1:45 into the second period with his 16th goal of the season on assists from Dennis Maxwell and Dion Lassu.

The Grrrowl drew to within 3-2 with 6:25 left in the game on a power-play goal by captain Sean Venedam, his 15th goal of the season, on an assist from Simon Gamache, but Gamache took an ill-advised slashing penalty 1:34 later giving Greensboro a five-minute power play, and the Generals took advantage.

Bes made it 4-2 with his 17th goal of the season at 18:06 on an assist from Lassu, and Markovsky added his ninth goal of the season to make it 5-2 :47 later on an assist from Craig Stahl.

The Grrrowl were 1 for 6 on the power play while Greensboro was 3 for 6. The Grrrowl outshot the Generals 34-28.

The Grrrowl will finish the five-game road trip tomorrow versus the South Carolina Stingrays at 7:30 p.m. Their next home game will be Wednesday March 20th when they will host the Mobile Mysticks at 7:05 p.m.
