ECHL, MeiGray Group Co-Sponsor Third Annual Game-Worn Jersey Charity Auction

January 9, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL) News Release

PRINCETON, N.J. - The ECHL in association with The MeiGray Group announced on Friday that the Game-Worn Jersey Auction at the 2004 Par-A-Dice ECHL All-Star Game will benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Since 1980, the Make-A-Wish Foundation® has enriched the lives of children with life-threatening medical conditions through its wish-granting work. The Foundation's mission reflects the life-changing impact that a Make-A-Wish® experience has on children, families, referral sources, donors, sponsors, and entire communities.

The jerseys worn by the 21 members of the Eastern Conference and the 21 members of the Western Conference during the first period of play on January 21 will be auctioned live during the game simultaneously at Carver Arena in Peoria, Ill., and online at www.echl.com, www.meigray.com, and www.ebay.com.

Also, for the first time, game-used and goal-scoring pucks will be collected from the game and put up for bid. The auction begins at 7 p.m. ET on January 21 and closes at 7 p.m. ET on January 28.

The ECHL and The MeiGray Group have raised more than $38,300 for the Twin Towers Fund (2002) and Karmanos Cancer Institute (2003) by auctioning off jerseys worn by the players during the 2002 ECHL All-Star Game in Trenton, N.J and the 2003 ECHL All-Star Game in Estero, Fla. Three players from the 2002 ECHL All-Star Game - Curtis Sanford, Vern Fiddler and Pat Leahy - have advanced to play in the National Hockey League while others from both the 2002 and the 2003 games have moved up to the American Hockey League.

"The past success with the charity auctions exemplifies the generosity of the ECHL fans," said Glen Thornborough, Vice President of Marketing/Sales, ECHL. "The MeiGray Group continues to provide their expertise to maximize these auctions that benefit such worthy charities as the Make-A-Wish Foundation® ."

"The ECHL's passion for the game, and its compassion for charitable causes makes it a perfect partner," said Barry Meisel, President and Chief Operating Officer of The MeiGray Group. "Thanks to our loyal collectors and fans, we feel honored to be able to work with the ECHL to help these worthy causes."

Each player in the 2004 Par-A-Dice ECHL All-Star Game will wear a different jersey in each of the game's three periods. The jerseys worn in the second period will be available to the general sports collecting public later this winter through The MeiGray Group, a Branchburg, N.J., company that also partners with the National Hockey League in the NHL-MGG Game-Worn Jersey Authentication Program. The players will keep the jerseys worn during the third period.

The official game-worn jersey source of the ECHL, MeiGray is also marketing the complete collection of home and road jerseys from all 31 teams in the ECHL, worn during the first half of 2003-04. Fans and collectors can order the jerseys of their favorite teams at www.meigray.com or by telephoning MGG toll-free at (888) 463-4472.

The MeiGray Group, which has sold more than 21,000 game-worn jerseys since 1997, also has working agreements to sell the game-worn jerseys of the Albany River Rats, Binghamton Senators, and Hartford Wolf Pack of the American Hockey League, the New York Giants and the Philadelphia Eagles of the National Football League, and the Texas Rangers of Major League Baseball.

Sponsored by the Par-A-Dice Hotel Casino and hosted by the Peoria Rivermen, the 12th Annual ECHL All-Star Game and Skills Competition will be held at the 9,919-seat Carver Arena at the Peoria Civic Center in Peoria, Ill. The Skills Competition will be at 7:00 p.m. CT on Tuesday, January 20 and the game will be played at 7:30 p.m. CT on Wednesday, January 21.
