Quakes Undefeated in England

The San Jose Earthquakes defeated Barclays Premier League side West Ham United 2-0 last Monday at Upton Park in London, Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 at Spurs Lodge in Chigwell and the Colorado Rapids 2-0 on Friday in Chigwell. The Earthquakes benefitted from an own goal, and a Ryan Johnson second half strike against West Ham. It was Bobby Burling's head that provided the lone goal in the win over Tottenham and Johnson struck again on Friday, along with Quincy Amarikwa in the win over the Rapids. The Quakes defense concluded the trip just how they began, with a clean sheet.

Tottenham legend Clive Allen Likes What He Sees From San Jose

Clive Allen has been impressed with what he's seen of our club partners San Jose Earthquakes during their pre-season preparations at Spurs Lodge. The MLS side from California completed a friendly double over Premier League opposition by beating West Ham 2-0 at Upton Park on Monday and following up with a 1-0 win against a Spurs XI side at the Lodge on Wednesday. The Earthquakes have used the Lodge as their training base during a week in England as part of their pre-season program for the 2010 MLS campaign that kicks-off against reigning champions Real Salt Lake on March 27. "It was a quality game for us," said Development coach Allen after Bobby Burling's close-range header earned the Earthquakes a victory on Wednesday. "San Jose are five weeks into their pre-season program now and having seen them at West Ham on Monday, I knew it would be a very competitive match for us and that's how it turned out." "It was just what a number of our players needed. Result-aside, as no-one likes to lose, it was a very good game for us." Clive predicted that the Earthquakes would improve on their 2009 MLS campaign. "They look to have competition for places and have a physically powerful squad," he added. "They make it tough for opposing teams but then look to apply their passing game and I'm sure Frank (Yallop, coach) has a big influence on that. "They didn't have the best of seasons last year but they are hoping to achieve a lot more this time around and with the players they've brought in and the strength of that squad, it certainly looks that they are capable of doing just that."
