San Jose Earthquakes News Release


SAN JOSE, Calif. - The San Jose Earthquakes and Nashville SC played to a 0-0 draw last Saturday at GEODIS Park in Nashville, Tenn. San Jose prevented Nashville from scoring on their home turf for just the second time since the start of the 2021 season, inclusive of 22 matches.

The Earthquakes are now preparing for their third consecutive road match when they face Real Salt Lake on Saturday, June 18. The match will kick off from Rio Tinto Stadium at 6:30 p.m. PT and will be broadcast on NBC Sports California, KNBR 1050 (English), and 1370 KZSF (Spanish).

San Jose earned a road point by keeping their second shutout of the season last Saturday at Nashville SC. Nashville is in the midst of a 22-game unbeaten streak at home.

Midfielder Cristian Espinoza made his 100th MLS appearance on Saturday, starting and playing 79 minutes.

Goalkeeper JT Marcinkowski made five saves to record his second shutout of the season and 12th of his MLS career.

More than 30,000 Tickets Sold for California Clasico on June 25

The San Jose Earthquakes announced last Tuesday that the club has sold more than 30,000 tickets to the California Clasico at Stanford Stadium on Saturday, June 25, presented by Stanford Medicine. The Bay Area's biggest summer sporting event features the Earthquakes vs. LA Galaxy, a military appreciation celebration, and the region's largest fireworks show postgame. In honor of the 10-year anniversary of the first California Clasico at Stanford Stadium, the Quakes will recognize players and coaches that have competed in previous matches at halftime.

Cowell, Tsakiris Called to U.S. U20 National Team for Concacaf U20 Championship

San Jose Earthquakes Homegrown forward Cade Cowell and Homegrown midfielder Niko Tsakiris have been called to the United States U20 Men's National Team for the upcoming Concacaf U20 Championship in Honduras, which runs from June 18 to July 3. The 2022 Concacaf U20 Championship, which is held in Honduras, will see all four semifinalists qualify for the 2023 FIFA U20 World Cup in Indonesia. The two teams that reach the final will also qualify for the 2024 Summer Olympics in France.

Earthquakes to Face RC Celta de Vigo in International Friendly on July 20

The Earthquakes will face LaLiga side RC Celta de Vigo in a friendly at PayPal Park on Wednesday, July 20 at 7:30 p.m. PT. It marks the first meeting between the two clubs and San Jose's fifth match ever against a team from Spain. The match will serve as Bonus Game B for Earthquakes Season Ticket Holders and is included in their ticketing package. Season Ticket Holders will also get an exclusive presale to purchase additional tickets beginning Tuesday, June 14 at 10 a.m. PT. Tickets will then be made available to the general public on Wednesday, June 15 at 1 p.m. PT. Tickets for groups of 10 or more can be purchased by calling the Earthquakes Front Office at (408) 556-7700.

June 15, 1994 - San Jose becomes a charter member of Major League Soccer

The San Jose Earthquakes became a charter club of Major League Soccer on June 15, 1994, along with Boston, Columbus, Los Angeles, New Jersey, New York, and Washington D.C. The New Jersey and New York entries were later merged, and Chicago and Tampa were later added to the league in November 1994.

EARTHQUAKES II UPDATE

Earthquakes II defeated MNUFC2 2-1 last Wednesday at PayPal Park. Quakes II has now won three of their last four home matches (3-1-0). Quakes II opened the scoring in the 40th minute via penalty by Eduardo Blancas and held the lead for majority of the second half until Minnesota United 2 equalized in stoppage time through Diogo Pacheco. Earthquakes II responded quickly one minute later with Jerry Ayon scoring the game-winner.
