
Earthquakes to Face La Liga Side Real Valladolid on July 16

SAN JOSE, Calif. - The San Jose Earthquakes will face Spanish La Liga side Real Valladolid Club de Fútbol, S.A.D. at Avaya Stadium on Tuesday, July 16 at 7:15 p.m. The international friendly will be Real Valladolid's first match on their tour of North America before they head to Edmonton, Canada to face English Championship side Cardiff City.
The match will be the first time that the Quakes will face Real Valladolid in any competition and the club's fourth ever against a team from Spain. San Jose most recently defeated Real Sociedad 2-1 at Avaya Stadium on May 18, 2016.
Celebrating their 91st anniversary later this month, Real Valladolid were founded on June 20, 1928 and have appeared in La Liga, Spain's first division, for 42 seasons. They currently rank 13th in the historic standings of the league. The Pucela's best season in La Liga was 1962-63, when they finished above Spanish giants FC Barcelona.
On September 3, 2018, Real Valladolid announced that Brazilian legend Ronaldo had become the majority shareholder after purchasing a 51% controlling stake in the club. In his first year as owner, Ronaldo saw the team win their relegation battle and earn a second consecutive year in Spain's top flight after finishing in 16th place.
The match will serve as Bonus Match C for Quakes Season Pass Holders and is included in their ticketing package. Season Pass Holders can purchase additional tickets as part of an exclusive presale startingimmediately by calling their account services representative.
Tickets go on sale to the general public on Wednesday, June 19 at 10 a.m. and are available at Ticketmaster.com or by calling 800-745-3000. Group tickets can be purchased by calling the Earthquakes Front Office at 408-556-7700.
The Quakes have an 11-11-10 record in international exhibitions, including an 8-3-6 record in the past 17 matches. Most recently, the Quakes fell to Concacaf Champions League winners C.F. Monterrey 2-1 in March of this year.
