Founded in 1906, Chivas are one of the most successful clubs in Mexico, winning 12 Liga MX titles, seven Campeón de Campeones and four Copa MX championships. Both recent Liga MX and Copa MX titles were won in 2017, while led by Almeyda.
Known for only featuring Mexican-born players, Chivas finished with an 10-10-15 aggregate over the last two seasons. El Rebaño Sagrado has made rapid efforts this year to improve their winning presence with the hiring of sporting director Ricardo Peláez and investing over $40 million in Mexican players as they head into a new club era.
Founded in 1944, Club León have experienced success in Liga MX, most recently claiming the Apertura 2013 and Clausura 2014. Club León have won seven Liga MX titles, five Copa MX championships and five Campeón de Campeones. León's roster features many national team players from South America, Mexico and the U.S.
Led by Mexican head coach Ignacio AmbrÃÂz, León have shown consistency in recent seasons, reaching the playoffs consecutively since the Apertura 2017. Los Esmeraldas finished as runners-up in the Apertura 2019 with the help of top Mexican prospect José Juan MacÃÂas, who scored 19 goals in 38 appearances while on loan from Chivas.
