
Earthquakes Sign Rookie Goalkeeper Billy Knutsen

SAN JOSE, Calif. - The San Jose Earthquakes announced today that the club has signed rookie goalkeeper Billy Knutsen. Per league and team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Knutsen, 21, was a fourth-round selection (No. 74 overall) of San Jose in the 2014 MLS SuperDraft. A two-year starter at goalkeeper for American University, he recorded 13 shutouts in 37 games between 2012 and 2013. He posted goals-against averages of 1.06 and 0.93 per game in 2013 and 2012, respectively. Knutsen also made eight appearances during his first two seasons at American, recording three shutouts in the process. A San Francisco native, he played high school soccer for St. Ignatius Prep.
