San Jose Earthquakes News Release
SAN JOSE, Calif. - San Jose Earthquakes midfielder Bobby Convey was named to the roster for the 2010 AT&T MLS All-Star Game next week by MLS All-Star head coach Bruce Arena. Convey will replace the injured Jonathan Bornstein on the roster. The MLS All-Stars take on Manchester United on Wednesday, July 28 at Reliant Stadium in Houston, Texas (5:30 p.m. PT, ESPN2, Telefutura). Convey is the first member of the Earthquakes to be named an All-Star since the team returned to MLS in 2008.
Convey has been one of the keys to the Quakes turnaround in 2010, appearing in all 14 of the Earthquakes' matches in 2010 and recording assists on eight of the team's 18 total goals this season. The eight assists are a career high for the Philadelphia native. After finishing the 2009 season with only seven wins, the Quakes are currently 6-4-4 and in playoff position in 2010. This is Convey's third career All-Star selection (2001, 2004).
Convey is in his second season with San Jose after returning to MLS in 2009. Prior to playing with the Quakes, he had a four-and-a-half year stint with English Club, Reading F.C. during which he helped them earn promotion to the English Premier League. He made 112 appearances with Reading and scored eight goals. The left-sided midfielder spent the first four-and-a-half years of his career with D.C. United, signing with United at age 16. He scored eight goals and had 16 assists in 89 games in D.C.
He has also had a decorated career with the U.S. National Team. He was a key part of the U.S. squad that qualified for the 2006 World Cup, playing in seven qualifiers in 2005. He then played in all three matches for the U.S. team at the World Cup in Germany. He has earned 46 caps with the U.S. National Team.
