Portland Winterhawks News Release

The Portland Winter Hawks took a 3-2 lead into the final period on Sunday night at the Memorial Coliseum, but the Chilliwack Bruins scored two goals, one each by Michael Proudley and Colby Kulhanek, in the first 3:30 of the third period to skate away with a 4-3 win.

Portland scored three times in the second period to rally from a 1-0 deficit and take a 3-2 lead after 40 minutes. The line of Colton Sceviour (1 goal, 1 assist), Tyler Swystun (1 goal, 1 assist) and Viktor Sjodin (1 assist) led the way for Portland. Matt Betker picked up the other Hawks goal while Tristan King picked up his first points of the season, garnering two assists.

Swystun's goal came on the power play, just the third time this season in 63 opportunities that Portland has scored with the man advantage. Portland finished the night 1 for 2 on the power play while killing the lone power play against in a game that featured mostly five-on-five action.

Proudley (2 goals, 1 assist) led the Bruins while Oscar Moller (1 goal, 1 assist) kept his hot streak alive, as he now has 10 points in his last three games.

Jordan White got the start in net for Portland, stopping 34 of 38 shots in the loss. Matt Esposito handled 20 of 23 Portland shots on the night.

Portland pulled White with approximately 1:30 left for the extra attacker and created numerous chances to tie the game, but couldn't capitalize to force overtime.

Portland is still looking for their first home-ice win of the season and they will get their next opportunity on Tuesday night when the Saskatoon Blades visit the Memorial Coliseum for a 7:00 start. The pre-game show on 1550 AM KKAD will start at 6:40.
