
Hickey and Boyer score in 2-0 victory over Portland

Portland, OR - Jacob DeSerres made 26 saves and Thomas Hickey and Jeremy Boyer scored 58 seconds apart in the third period to lead the Seattle Thunderbirds to a 2-0 shutout victory over the Portland Winter Hawks in front of 5,386 at Memorial Coliseum Saturday night.
DeSerres got his first win of the season and his record is now 1-0-0-1.
Seattle improves to 5-1-2-1 in the US Division with the win. Portland (1-9-0-0) outshot Seattle 13-12 in a scoreless first period.
Seattle outshot Portland 16-9 in the second period and led 28-22 in total shots after two periods.
Hickey put the T-Birds in front 1-0 early in the third period with a power-play goal. Jan Eberle got to a loose puck in right circle and found Hickey at the right point. Hickey skated across the blue line and then put a slap shot on goal that beat Portland goalie Kurtis Mucha through the legs. Hickey's fifth goal of the year came 27 seconds into the period.
Hickey's fifth goal tied him with Boyer for the team lead, but it only lasted 58 seconds.
Boyer corralled a loose puck in the neutral zone, came into the Portland zone and then unloaded a slap shot that beat Mucha high on the stick side at 1:25 of the third. Boyer has six goals on the season, all coming in the last five games. Seattle outshot Portland 8-4 in the third period and finished the game with a 36-26 advantage.
Mucha made 34 saves on 36 shots and his record is now 1-6-0-0.
The T-Birds next game is Friday, October 26, against the Saskatoon Blades at KeyArena at 7:35 p.m. in the first of three games over the weekend. They travel to Spokane to take on the Chiefs on Saturday, October 27, at 7 p.m. They are back home at KeyArena on Sunday, October 28, to face the Brandon Wheat Kings at 5:05 p.m.
