Durham Bulls News Release

Durham, NC - LHP J.P. Howell (3-6) surrendered only two runs in five innings, but RHP Sean Smith (8-5) and the Bisons' bullpen kept the Bulls offense in check as they defeated the Bulls 3-1, on Friday night at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park.

The Bisons jumped out to an early 2-0 lead when Hector Luna scored from third on a ground out by Joe Inglett in the first inning and Keith Ginter led the top of the second inning with a home run. The Bulls pulled within one in the bottom of the third inning, but the Bisons added an insurance run in the eighth inning on an RBI single from Jonathan Van Every to take a 3-1 lead.

Smith surrendered just one run, six hits, and a walk while striking out four in seven innings of work. RHP Jensen Lewis pitched a scoreless eighth inning and RHP Edward Mujica retired the side in the ninth inning to earn his 12th save of the season.

Andy Marte singled after Ginter's home run, but he was the last batter Howell allowed to reach base. He pitched five innings, surrendering the two runs and three hits with no walks and five strikeouts in the loss.

The Bulls and Bisons will meet again on Saturday night at 7 PM at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park. For tickets, go to www.durhambulls.com or call the box office at (919) 956-BULL.
